Yesterday was my birthday, and that means I got to take the day off. In addition to indulging in a quick spa treatment (thanks, Bliss!) and dinner in with the boyfriend, it also means I got to wear my favorite lipstick last night as a birthday treat: Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Icon.
As the name suggests, it’s an iconic shade, a deep scarlet hue that’s a good, true blue-red. This is a red carpet red, ladies: your lips are highlighted in the most exquisite way possible, like velvet ropes guarding your mouth. Which, in my opinion, is exactly what a red carpet-worthy lipstick should do.
The formula and applicator are two of the reasons I love it so. The applicator is a tiny sponge on a stick, which gives you the accuracy of liner with the tip and the flat, broad application of a regular lipstick when you press it down. The formula goes on and stays on for up to 14 hours without drying. So, even as we had salads and dinner and dessert, the stain remained stable. This is the key, gals: if you give this liquid lipstick 10 minutes to set completely undisturbed, it’s not going anywhere.
Also, note the word “opaque” in the name. It’s absolutely true to its moniker: a matte that’s not dull and not sheer in any way. It usually takes layers of pencil and lipstick to get this effect, but this one product can do it all. Swipe on, blot, swipe on again, do not disturb for a few minutes and it’s locked for the night without stripping, drying or flaking.
I’d also like to report that my boyfriend has a general loathing of lipstick that winds up all over his mouth. This is the ONE product that, once set, doesn’t wind up all over his lips. It’s a winner, it’s a date night essential, and it was absolutely the right choice for dinner at Landmarc last night.
Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Icon ($28) is available at Sephora. But if you hang around, I’m giving one away (along with six other colors) later this week to one lucky winner! 🙂
