I can admit to a rather Goth phase around my Junior year of college. Suddenly, everything was very moody and very dark and I had a bit of a Winona-Ryder-in-Beetlejuice moment. Deep lipstick, tons of The Cure playing, only Morrissey understood me, etc. etc. I wore vinyl bustiers, threw on black lipstick and rimmed my eyes with enough kohl liner to play a member of The Addams Family. Everyone sucked, life was irritating…when Winona uttered those immortal lines in Heathers, “My teen angst has a body count,” I got it.
Luckily, that phase has passed, but every once in a while I still let a touch of the dark back into my life via my closet, and particularly when Halloween comes around. I don’t exactly *love* Halloween…I never have. Even as a kid, I’ve always been weary of masks and costumes where people aren’t recognizable, especially since some people take anonymity as a license to act criminally insane. As someone who’s really into being who you are, I’m not really a fan of holidays that celebrate being something you aren’t. But that’s just me.
I had told you guys about the Current/Elliott Stadium Sweatshirt that I had been watching like a hawk via Bergdorf Goodman, and now that it’s arrived, it’s my new leather-sleeved best friend. Paired with waxed skinnies and some heels, suddenly it’s Friday, and I’m in love.
Oh, and some seriously awesome accessories. This Rebecca Minkoff for Avon clutch is no longer available, but I still rock it often. It’s one of my favorites. I still absolutely love her bags. Such a great lady, so talented.
But can we talk about this lip? It’s Stila Stay All Day Vinyl Lip Gloss in Merlot. One of my favorite new additions to my makeup bag, I spotted celebrity makeup artist and Stila Global Creative Director Sarah Lucero tapping it onto the lips of models backstage at alice + olivia for Fall 2013 and I became singularly obsessed with getting my hands on it. It’s a gorgeous wine hue and very of-the-moment. Clearly, I’ve slathered it on pretty thick, but one coat will give you a beautiful burgundy lip that will turn heads. Seriously, please get involved with this lip color.
Even though my moody, darker days are thankfully behind me, I still love letting my inner Goth rocker out every once in a while. But now she’s a bit more optimistic and happy…and comfortable.
