Adventures In Beauty: Effortlessly Frizz-Free Hair With the Pravana Perfection SmoothOut Treatment

Gals, the weather is warming up and for those of us who fight frizz and GIGANTIC HAIR all the livelong day, we need assistance. I sent one such intrepid FSB contributor, Jennifer Morales, in for a treatment that she swear has evidently changed her life. Here’s her story:

“Dear Beauty Diary, I have found The ONE. Xoxo, My Hair.”

Our beloved Jennifer, prior to the treatment.

Finding a great hairstylist is a lot like dating: it takes a lot of trial and error, shared interests and, above all, communication. However, while I continue searching for Mr. Right in the Love Department, the quest for the right hairdresser – and the right hair treatment to solve my out-of-control frizz and texture – has now been resolved.

I’m in love.

My hair usually grows wildly out of control and no styling product or tool has seemed able to control my strands. So you can imagine the excitement I felt when Kristin sent me on this story as part of the Adventures in Beauty series to visit Sally Hershberger Salon Downtown to experience a Pravana Perfection SmoothOut Treatment, a formaldehyde-free hair-smoothing treatment that lasts 8-12 weeks.

James works on Jennifer's hair.

I had heard amazing things about James Vides,  the London-born, incredibly sweet stylist who would be taking care of me, and eagerly awaited my turn to have my hair transformed by his magical hands. The same hands who have styled beauties like Kate Winslet and Natalie Portman. I walked into the salon and sat in his chair…

And that’s when the magic happened.

During my first visit (this love story has a sequel,) James and his assistant applied the Pravana treatment, and proceeded to blow my hair to silky-straight, soft, Gwyneth Paltrow-esque perfection. My instructions were to leave it on for eight hours without getting it wet. No problem. Smooth hair was finally achieved.

The products used for my blowout.

But this was only the beginning as James kindly offered to cut my hair in a subsequent visit. I returned to the place of my Mad Love Hair Affair and James gave my long, slightly-wavy locks concave layers to shape and elongate my face (I will never say no to a man who wants to make me look skinnier!) After freeing my hair of at least 4″ of length,  the Blowout Of My Life commenced. Here are some tips on how he gave me a red carpet-worthy blowout using a mixture of Shu Uemura Ample Angora Volumizing Light Foam Mousse and Salon Luxe Layers for texture and hold.

Styling Tip: For long, frizz-prone hair like mine, he recommends using a 2-inch ceramic round brush. James also recommends keeping it a little damp before blowing it out and to keep the nozzle of your hair dryer angled downward.

James perfects the look on Jennifer.

James perfected the treatment by dry cutting my hair once it had been blown dry, cutting individual strands to add additional softness and finesse the layers. The finished results were nothing short of amazing- not only had my hair come alive with movement, it now looked sexy and modern and SLEEK. It gave me an instant face lift!

Jennifer with her new fabulously-smooth hairstyle and her beloved James, the ultimate Hair Boyfriend.

It’s some time later and I still love my cut and the treatment. The cut and treatment combination has decreased styling time (easy waves? sure! date-night sleekness? no problem!) and it takes less product to get it looking amazing. I have fabulous hair with little-to-no effort.

So ladies, feel free to rip a page from my beauty diary and go in for your own beauty miracle. Feel free to borrow my Hair Boyfriend for Life, James Vides, and get your hair in the chair for the new Pravana treatment before spring humidity hits.

Now if only it were this easy to schedule in Mr. Right…

Next time I blow dry my hair, I’ll have to use your styling tip of aiming the nozzle downward. Great article!

I so need to do this! oh James….
