Last night’s 63rd Annual Primetime Emmys broadcast kept up all enthralled with humor, a seemingly endless number of musical numbers and a grand sweep for the comedy. The only thing more surprising than Charlie Sheen making an articulate (yet awkward) appearance on stage was the lack of amazing dresses on the red carpet. But a few amazing trends and the ladies who wore them stood out as extraordinary. Let’s make note of those who did it right:
Red on the Red Carpet – a great number of TV’s finest decided to make red their signature color last night and it worked. Best in show: Nina Dobrev in a gorgeous Donna Karan gown with origami-esque gathering along the voluminous hem. Kate Winslet comes in at a close second in Elie Saab and honorable mentions goes to bombshell Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang and Lea Michele in Marchesa.
True Blues – Shades of blue made for a truly gorgeous red carpet statement. I thought Dianna Agron looked amazing in red carpet newcomer Roksana Illincic’s fishtail gown. Colbie Smulders comes in a close second in aquamarine Alberta Ferretti and Minka Kelly also looked amazing in a deep sapphire-hued Diorgown.
[/caption]Black on Black – A good number of ladies were back in black to much applause. My favorites in this category were Evan Rachel Wood and Emily Blunt, both in Elie Saab (who wins for Most Best Dressed By One Designer.)
Running a close second would be Julie Bowen in Oscar de la Renta and an honorable mention would have to go to Gretchen Mol in L’Wrenn Scott.
All That Glitters – You know I love a sequin and I adore a bead and my beloved embellishments made their way back to the red carpet in style. I would like to finally acknowledge my beloved Christina Hendricks with FIRST PLACE for her Johanna Johnson gown as the best dressed in this category and one of the best dressed of the night. She’s followed closely by Maria Bello in Kaufmanfranco and Cat Deeley in Monique Lhuillier.
But the overall winner for me (with no apparent trend, really) would be SNL’s Kristen Wiig in Zac Posen. She killed it in this gown, paired with Fred Leighton bangles.
Ok, so let’s hear it. Agree with my picks? Disagree? Let’s chat! Comment below!
Agree!!! Christina Hendricks, Dianna Agron & Kristen Wiig were my personal favorites… somehow wasn’t quite the same watching w/o my old partner in crime though!
