Hey Kristin, I have a beauty question for you. I love the hues of the NARS blushes, but am afraid of the sparkle it seems to have in it. I want your opinion before I pull the trigger. – Veronica S., Leland , NC

Well, first of all, I should state for the record that I’m quite partial to NARS blushes, particularly as an early adopter of Orgasm from the jump off. So, if you’re going to ask me if you shouldn’t buy a NARS blush, I’m probably capable of writing a thesis on why you should buy that particular brand without a lot of question. But, having just written a story about the days when you’d prefer not to have a touch of shimmer on your face, let me touch on a couple of things as I answer your question.

The reason there’s shimmer in a few of the NARS blushes (not all of them have it) is to add a bit of dimension to your makeup so your face doesn’t look flat in person or in photographs. Those little bits catch the light perfectly and act like little mirrors, so it’s kind of light traveling with your own lighting crew. If used in conjunction with a touch of translucent powder over the top, it just comes across as a warm glow. Very few of the particles are large enough to really be seen, but there will be a touch of fairy dust sometimes. NARS is a makeup brand that can go from day to night, and some of the products are better at night. A blush with a touch of shimmer is amazing for dinners, nights on the town, and when you want to turn down the lights and turn up the heat with someone special. Don’t fear the shimmer, just save it for lower lighting or tamper it with just a touch of powder if you’re nervous.

Now, for days when you don’t want shimmer, just pick a NARS blush that doesn’t contain the shimmer aspects to it and go for a matte texture. If you can hang out until next Friday (March 1st), the new Matte Multiples will come out to play and you can play with those colors until your heart’s content. But, if you’re a powder blush fan, go with one that doesn’t have the shimmer factor. For the record, here’s a list of all (I’m pretty sure this is all) of the NARS blushes that DON’T have shimmer (most are featured above:)

Hope that helps! You can click the link to any of the items above and it should take you right to it. All the blushes are sold at NARS counters and stores like Sephora and Nordstrom everywhere. Enjoy your option to live a sparkling AND sparkle-free life. 🙂

One Response to Ask The Editor: I’m A Bit Afraid of Sparkle In My Blush

  1. […] Fashion Style Beauty advises a reader worried about the sparkle in her blush. (I’m usually not a fan of sparkly makeup, but for my $.02 I think Nars Orgasm in powder form is an acceptable shade for work — the sparkle is very subdued.  I save Nars The Multiple in Orgasm for touching up my makeup for “desk to dinner” situations.)
