I realize most of you think it’s crazy to go without makeup on a Monday, but inspired by my friend Alexis Wolfer of The Beauty Bean, I have decided to take the Columbus Day and rock the no makeup look to give my skin a break from last week’s crazy schedule. With that commitment, I also thought I’d apologize to my face the best way I know how, which is with Tarte Pure Maracuja Oil ($46 via Sephora.)
I’m using a stock image since my bottle is almost empty, but that should give you a feel for how much I use it. Because when I’ve had a week where I’m rocking a whole face full of makeup and possibly changes in makeup throughout the day, my skin take a beating and this soothing, healing oil is like sending flowers to my face.
Maracuja oil is packed with Vitamin C and essential fatty acids, which means not only can it help soothe and smooth rough textures and dryness, but it brightens and hydrates. Now, here’s the thing, ladies and men who love great skin: it’s specifically targeted for those of us with sensitive skin and/or acne-prone oily skin. I know most of you who have oily skin are screaming, “That’s a big fat glass of NO WAY IN HELL, chick!” when you saw that I suggested that you combat oil with oil, but hear me out: it works.
Essentially, if you have oil-prone skin, your whole job in life is to keep your skin moisture balanced. Because your face literally senses a disturbance in the Force (i.e. the hydration of your skin, blockages, irritation), and it sends reinforcements. Reinforcements = sebum, which is oil. If you won’t keep your face soothed and hydrated, your oil glands will try and do it for you. If you add just a touch of this to cleansed skin, it might change your life. It won’t clog your pores and it will leave you with hydrated, glowing, non-greasy skin.
Try it. I’m pretty sure you’ll sleep with it next to the bed on a velvet pillow like I do…or at least keep it in the medicine cabinet.
