It’s that time of year again and we’re getting geared up to bring you all the news that’s fit to post from inside the tents of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, MAC & Milk and other shows and activities of the holiday we all like to call New York Fashion Week. Before we get started, you know that I’m personally a bit of a softy when it comes to major labels getting behind worthwhile causes, so I thought I’d tell you a little bit about the Nine West partnership that’s sure to be a game changer.
My beloved Nine West just announced that they will be taking major steps to raise funds and awareness for the Ralph Lauren-created charity, Fashion Targets Breast Cancer, during New York Fashion Week. The program, entitled Nine West’s Runway Relief, has the accessories powerhouse partnering with the CFDA, photographer Nigel Barker, Sony, Omron, Elite, IMG and Marilyn to raise awareness.
The plan is simple: people watch models, models wearing a great thing for a great cause raises awareness, the cause is served. The models who have been called into service? Some of the best catwalk queens in the industry, including Coco Rocha, Jessica White, Michelle Alves and Lisalla Montenegro. The runway mavens have been asked to don the limited edition Nine West Runway Relief Boot ($199), a stylish boot with a special twist: each one is uniquely equipped with an Omron GOSmart Pocket Pedometer (HJ-303) that will track how many steps each model will take that week and every step equals a donation to Fashion Targets Breast Cancer so that women can get their Conners Clinic treatments. Let’s be real how many steps this can be: everything from racing to castings to running to fittings to the shows and then Fashion Week’s hottest parties. Trust me when I tell you, it’s a LOT of walking, which will hopefully equal a LOT of fundraising and awareness.
