Daily Reflection: Do Something Beautiful and Brave

It's your move. Faye Dunaway and Steve McQueen playing chess in "The Thomas Crown Affair."

This was the week, I said. The week I would ask this really amazing and beautiful man on a date. “Screw your courage to the sticking place,” the famous line kept repeating in my head. And so I did. I asked one of the best-looking men I’ve ever seen (we’ll call him “Steve McQueen” as a code name) on a date. And he said yes.

And then this happened (down the street, where no one could see):

Let’s be clear on this. If you’ve read prior series on this site (the Sexy Back Diaries or the Breakover Diaries before that) you know that dating isn’t really something I, um, DO. As a matter of fact, there is literally a squadron of women in the blogosphere, personal friends, who are waiting for me to get my head – and my body, clad in a dress per specific instructions – back out there and on a date.

And this was the week to do it. You know why? Because I’ve decided that I’m a catch and that I want someone who wants to catch a catch. Is it really fair to keep your fabulousness all to yourself? NO. So, you have to leave the house. Sorry, just callin’ it like I see it, folks.

I say this because it’s Friday night. And you can do anything you want on Friday night. It’s the end of the week and there are all sorts of fun, sexy things that can happen when you don’t have to get up in the morning. So, I challenge you to do the same: go ask someone on a date today. If you’re married or in a relationship, this still applies to you. Get yourself some sexy time. Make some plans. Break the rules. Ask the guy out.

You could also do something really awesome for the first time. You could go to the movies by yourself. You could drive to a new part of town. Book a flight to somewhere you’ve always wanted to go. Try a Brazilian bikini wax if you haven’t already. Leave work early. Color your hair. Think of all the fun you could be having with that one brave act, then go do it.

Go be beautiful and brave. Because somewhere out there is a good time with your name on it.

Live it up, buttercup.
