I am, admittedly, someone who has to squash the urge to stay in “freelance clothes” all day. See, one of the beautiful things about working for yourself and being in charge of your schedule is that there are whole days where you can stay in your favorite sweatpants. You can literally write, blog and have conference calls all day in your pajamas (or even your underwear, NOT THAT I DO THAT) and no one would be the wiser. However, you WILL eventually have to leave the house, and it’s usually best to go ahead and get dressed before you really need to do so.
So, in my efforts to get all dolled up before I leave the house, I’ve got some famous quotes and videos queued up to inspire me. Hopefully, they’ll inspire you to add that one fabulous item before running out for the day. After all, as Clairee said Steel Magnolias, “The only thing that sets us apart is our ability to accessorize.”
A little fashion montage from The Devil Wears Prada:
And, of course, I had to include the moment where Miranda Priestly explains fashion to the world.
“Dress shabbily and they remember the dress; dress impeccably and they remember the woman.” ― Coco Chanel
“Fashion must be the most intoxicating release from the banality of the world.” – Diana Vreeland
“It’s a new era in fashion – there are no rules. It’s all about the individual and personal style, wearing high-end, low-end, classic labels, and up-and-coming designers all together.” — Alexander McQueen
“The difference between style and fashion is quality.” – Giorgio Armani
“Women dress alike all over the world: they dress to be annoying to other women.” – Elsa Schiaparelli
“The most important thing to remember is that you can wear all the greatest clothes and all the greatest shoes, but you’ve got to have a good spirit on the inside. That’s what’s really going to make you look like you’re ready to rock the world.”
— Alicia Keys
