I used to be a professional “avoider” who practiced “relocation therapy” for years. Whenever I would make my life over-complicated, I would just move. I don’t just mean apartments, I mean to WHOLE OTHER STATES. This resulted in a great deal of exploration of the United States of America, but years of avoidance and lack of knowledge of myself.
Look, none of us LOVE dealing with things that make us uncomfortable; it seems easier to shift things around so we don’t have to deal with whatever’s bothering us. This doesn’t have to involve boxes and movers – we run away in a whole bunch of ways. Whole venues get avoided, friends stop speaking, feelings disappear at the bottoms of wine glasses or boxes of cookies.
Truth? Eventually these specs of drama will gather into a gigantic lump under the Rug of Your Life, over which you WILL trip. Avoidance is only temporary because it doesn’t matter how many situations you change, you personally never change which means you’re destined to have the same problems plague you. It might take years, but you WILL inevitably have to deal with your “stuff.”
Whatever’s bothering you, figure it out so you can move on. Stop trying to outrun your issues, turn around and face the day. Clean out your closet (the one in your house and the one in your head) and make room for the good stuff. It’s time to deal with your stuff, ladies.
Because wherever you go, there you are. Become your own best traveling companion through life. Unload the baggage.
