I am someone who carries one of these little Tide To Go Pens with me everywhere. Because I am not a neat person. As a matter of fact, I am a total klutz. I am the person who stumbles on the cracks on the sidewalk, I spill something on my shelf (the area where your breasts come out and it catches everything that falls off your face) every day and I honestly cannot remember where half of the messes on my clothes come from every week when I do laundry. For you neat, perfect people, I am a complete disaster.
Yet, I am a delightful mess. 🙂
I learned to stop freaking out about my inability to keep a pristine visage a couple of years ago when a mother was fussing at her small child on the subway. The little girl had been eating a cream-filled chocolate cupcake and her mother was tearing at her mouth with a napkin. The minute the mother turned around to grab another tissue, the kid took another bite of the cupcake and just smiled. Her mother yelled something about what whoever it was they were going to visit would think. From the mouth of a child that couldn’t have been older than 8 years, came this piece of wisdom:
“Mommy, I’m ENJOYING this cupcake. If they ask what’s wrong, tell them I’m HAPPY.”
Grab a stain stick and a good dry cleaner. It’s time to enjoy life a little more. Let’s make a mess.
