Dedicated Post: How to Care For Your Skin Before and After A Workout

Sure, you take care of your body, but what about your skin? Particularly your face after a workout?

In an effort to get healthy and look smoking hot and fabulous, many of us are taking a cue from Fergie and are workin’ on our fitness. Between spinning, running, yoga, barre classes and the whole lot, there’s a lot of time invested in feeling good. It’s also essential to look good while sweating, which is why many people “forget” to take off their makeup before they work out OR some of you put on MORE makeup before hitting your sweat sessions.

Gals, I’m here to tell you that wearing makeup to the gym is kind of wrong. Actually, it’s all sorts of wrong.  No, SERIOUSLY. Allow me to explain before you attack me with your powder compacts.

When you sweat, your body is actively pushing toxins and impurities out through your skin in addition to relieving your internal body temperature. Slapping on MORE makeup before a sweat session basically prevents this glorious process from happening and can lead to clogged pores, irritation, makeup running down your face AND – duh –SENSITIVE SKIN. Girls, glistening healthy skin is the HOTTEST ticket to self-esteem and looking gorgeous at the gym. You’re trying to use all those products to replicate what will naturally happen if you take them OFF.

Hence, take this as a plea to take off your makeup prior to a sweat session. I have many gym bag essentials (of which all the beauty items are sensitive skincare products,) but I ALWAYS carry two packages of wipes: Simple Skincare Exfoliating Facial Wipes to get my makeup off (and refresh my face) before I sweat to the oldies, and Simple Skincare Cleansing Facial Wipes for my post-workout facial wipe down to cleanse and refresh my skin.  Oh yes, let’s make THAT clear: you need to cleanse and nourish your face from all that glistening sweat within an hour of completing that workout or your glistening glow turns into gunk and goo that will basically clog your pores and cause blackheads, breakouts and other nastiness. Keep the glow going and clean off your face after you work out.

So, go pick up some wipes for your gym bag. After all, you wipe down equipment after you use it? Why not be that kind to your skin? Just be good to your skin and it will be good right back to you. It’s just that simple.
