This dedicated post has been produced as part of my partnership with Simple Skincare. The opinions within, however, are strictly my own.
Ok, so clearly from the nuclear temperatures outside, summer has decided to make an early appearance. While this means unlimited fun in the sun, it can also mean even MORE sensitive skin issues, from breakouts to unwanted sunburns and some souvenirs that you don’t really want (i.e. dryness, melasma, sun spots.)
Well, let’s prepare your skin for what’s bound to be a scorcher, both from a temperature and a fun perspective. Here’s how to prepare your skin for the rigors of summer:
Hydrate – This bears repeating in every single post, but you HAVE to drink tons of water to keep your tissues hydrated for optimum health. I mean, outside of the skincare factor, fainting, sunstroke and heat sickness is NOT CUTE. You should increase your intake of water at least 1.5 times your normal intake of eight glasses a day due to higher temperatures and double it if you’re going outdoors. Hydrated skin is healthy skin, so drink up, buttercup.
Eat wet foods – If you don’t want to drink gallons of water, you can also cheat and add more hydrating foods to your diet to “cheat.” Watermelon, cruciferous veggies, bamboo, watercress, spinach, celery – all of these can help boost your water intake. They also help keep you hydrated from the inside out, key to avoiding irritation. A salad a day may keep you in bathing suit ready shape and great skin year-round.
Avoid irritating foods – Hey, you: put DOWN the sugar for the summer. Processed sugar is not only bad for your waistline; it can wreck your complexion, especially if you’re adding heat to the mix. Here’s a rule of thumb for summer: if you have to add water to it to make it, you might want to avoid it while it’s hot outside. Oh, and go easy on the alcohol if you’re of age. Hangovers are one thing, but the dehydrating effects it has on your skin are a killer. Check out some celebrity mug shots as an example. Not cute.
Be super diligent about your moisturizing routine – This is the time to add lighter hydration but more often with Simple Skincare. I apply Simple Skincare Hydrating Light Moisturizer right out of the shower to lock in a good moisture barrier, then when my face dries, I lock it in with Simple Skincare Vital Vitamin Day Cream SPF 15 to moisturize and protect my skin all day. I reapply regularly with sun exposure – even when I’m just sitting near a window in a conference room. At night, I replace lost moisture with Simple Skincare Vital Vitamin Night Cream paired with Simple Skincare Soothing Eye Balm to soothe and relax my eyes. It’s important to use gentle, hydrating facial skincare products when you’re combating the drying, damaging factors of the sun.
Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen – This should go without saying, but using a high SPF all the time is incredibly important. I add a strong SPF 50 over every product I use and reapply often. You can’t be too careful, ladies and gents.
Follow these simple steps and your skin will be ready, willing and able to take on all the fun that summer has to offer. Just be sure to take care of your skin and you’ll look your best for this summer and more seasons in the sun. It’s just that simple.
Also, make sure that your body hair problems are taken care of with Laser Hair Removal – Touch Up Laser. Enjoy the goodness of the season without inhibitions.
