This dedicated post has been produced as part of my partnership with Simple Skincare. The opinions within, however, are strictly my own.
OK, skincare mavens, let’s dish. Do you have sensitive skin? Because I know I do.
I grew up in the make-it-go-away era of skincare. All of the issues of pre-pubescence caused my skin to break out into a solar system of pimples, some the size of planets, some merely clustered like small dots of stars along my jaw line. Enticed by commercials for “squeaky clean” results, I immediately ran to my drugstore and purchased a basket full of washes, creams, spot treatments and masques to eradicate the situation. Hey, guess what? The acne went away with puberty, but in its place appeared a host of other issues: incredible sensitivity, redness, dry patches, flaking, inflammation and itchy irritation. So not cute.
So, I did what most people do who don’t have beauty editor friends (Like you do. Hello? ME!) – I went to the drugstore and picked up a facial skincare product for every single issue I just mentioned. Not one or two products that worked on a combination of issues – I mean a product per issue. Not only was that an expensive choice, but it didn’t work. That’s when I realized that – duh – my skin might be reacting to the products I was using. I did a reset and have consistently used sensitive skincare products that are more gentle and nourishing to my skin. I also changed my diet, exercised and started drinking more water. The result is that I have the best skin of my life now.
All of the issues I just described are some of the telltale signs that you have sensitive skin. Using harsh products, not eating right, stress, your environment, exercise and nourishment are all factors to how your skin will react. If you’re experiencing any of the issues I’ve just mentioned; if you’ve got stressed-out flakes, irritation and dullness; if you’re slamming down 9 cups of coffee a day and you’re wondering why your skin looks dull, maybe it’s time to take a moment and find out what you’re doing to your skin and if, in fact, it’s really sensitive.
The good folks at my beloved Simple Skincare are here to help. They’ve created a quiz on their website that only takes about 3 minutes (I just did it, I’m not even kidding, maybe 5 minutes if you take a drink of water) and it ends with a FREE, personalized analysis of your skin’s condition and some things you can do to bring the balance back to your face. Take the quiz and figure out if you need some sensitive skincare love.
In the meantime, while you’re taking said quiz, try to drink more water and maybe toss in some stress-relieving exercise. Oh and maybe…Hey, I can’t give you all the great advice! Take the quiz and report back. 🙂
After all, knowledge is power and knowing what your skin needs is the first step in getting the most flawless skin of your life. Because, really, good skin should be just that simple.
