If you follow me on Facebook, you may have seen me literally counting the days until this weekend, the 4th of July weekend. Because I’m doing something I don’t normally do, which is I’m taking my own advice, folks: Life is short, live well. This weekend, I plan to do exactly that by taking some time off to celebrate myself, my hard work, and my own independence.
I started this site in 2009 with the hopes of creating a site filled with information and inspiration. I wanted people to feel better about themselves when they left the pages of this blog, to know that if I can do it, you can, too. A good dose of shared awe (like my tiny obsession with designer shoes) mixed with a lot of shared struggles, like body image and health. It’s been a wild ride, but four years and almost 1800 blog posts later, I’m really proud of the hard work I’ve put in. I’ve battled obesity, sure financial ruin and some personal demons trying to make my writing dreams come true. At one point, I lost my place to live. Life is no crystal staircase, but it’s sure worth climbing.
So, if you’ll join me in doing something new, take the Independence Day weekend to celebrate yourself. Celebrate all your hard work, your own fight for independence from the things every day that try to keep you down. Every day, you rise to the challenge, and you deserve to take a day to pat yourself on the back and enjoy some barbecue.
Today’s just for us. Let’s take a load off and celebrate. Happy Independence Day to YOU!
Just for today, take a moment to just bask in the glow of all the things you’ve done and all the great things you’ll do
