Do-It-Yourself Beauty: How to Make Homemade Sugar Scrub

Ok, so I DO NOT purport to be a rock solid expert at making a ton of things, but when it comes to a really good sugar scrub that you can use on your lips or other parts of your body I – as they say – got this one.

Let’s just say that tonight is Sunday night and you’re ready to get your spa on before the new week begins. Let’s also say that you’re like me and a woman who LOVES a good project as much as she loves to save money. Let’s get crazy and make our own sugar scrub tonight.

Walk directly into your kitchen and get ready to whip it up. Ready? Here we go:

  • 1/2 c. of sugar (brown is my favorite, but you can also use raw or cane sugar – or white sugar if you are DESPERATE)
  • an oil to soften the mixture, such as olive oil, safflower or almond oil (do not use other cooking oils – it will be gross)

Instructions: Dump the sugar into a plastic container, then add oil gradually until the sugar mixture softens. Seal it and keep it on the sink to use on your lips or on the ledge in the shower to use on your body.

If you’re really feeling spry, you can always get fancy and add essential oils (lavender or almond oils are my favorites) to up the spa-like factor and to add extra softening.

That’s it, folks. That’s how you make your own sugar scrub. Go nuts and enjoy!

Peppermint oil (just a drop in with the other) is awesome too!
