Let’s say that you need a new pair of glasses. Let’s also say that you’re trying to go/live/be green and you’d like to feel really good about seeing the world you’re trying to save. I can help you with both of those pursuits.
Modo eco and model/environmental activist Summer Rayne Oakes have created a gorgeous (I repeat, GORGEOUS) line of optical frames and lenses that are not only stylish, but they are actually the first ever to receive the Environmental Claims Validation™ (ECV) from UL Environment (ULE), which certifies the eyewear is made of at least 95% recycled materials. Oh, and the case they come in is made from RPET (Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate), a.k.a recycled soda bottles, and the packaging itself is made from recycled paper and printed with soy ink. So, when I say eco-chic, I mean it.
The line is also focused on rebuilding the planet, so it’s partnered with Trees For The Future and the Mezimbite Forest Centre, which will plant one tree for every pair of frames sold. They’re also a member of 1% For the Planet, a worldwide network of businesses in 38 countries that donate at least 1% of their annual revenue to nonprofit, environmental cause, and has created a system that allows consumers to donate their unwanted frames to nonprofit organizations that can give them to a person in need who would otherwise not be able to afford corrective eyewear.
The eco by Summer Rayne Oakes line has both spectacles and sunglasses and contains a large number of SKUs that will look amazing on a variety of face shapes and skin tones. The sunglasses retail for $175 and the eyeglasses will go for $190. You can get them here in NYC at Eco Village Store on 52 University Place as well as at the Modo store on 252 Mott Street. If you’re outside Manhattan, you can always order them online at Modoshop.com.
They’re gorgeous and guilt-free, so give them a look-see and see what you think. I have a feeling you’ll see quite clearly why I love them so much.
