There are names that immediately evoke a gasp among those of us who love fashion, the American masters that have defined fashion and accessories for generations across the globe as a distinctly American aesthetic. There’s one man whose clothes have become synonymous with American style, the combination of two words that can send a thrill through the spine of any woman who encounters anything that’s attached to his name: Ralph Lauren.
I had the honor to cover this show last season (and gratefully the season before) and it’s nothing short of spectacular every season. Fashion’s glitterati come out every time and stand in line to see what the master of American fashion will send down the runway. This Fall, it’s a glamorous trip to China in the 1930’s, a luxurious collection with flowing silk, embroidery, smart suiting and details borrowed from the gents mixed with glittering diamonds and jade, a collection that contains a multitude of pieces with painstaking details that would instantly add a dash of power and glamour to the woman who purchases it.
Ralph Lauren’s shows are a dream to those who love fashion and it’s my duty to share as much of that fantasy, that incredible pinch-yourself moment that happens every time we see his collections walk down the runway. Allow me to show you the master at work. Here, in his own words, is a short film on the Fall 2011 Collection called “The Art of A Collection”:
And now you can watch the show in its entirety. Be still your heart, fashion fans: this collection is absolutely stunning.
