Dolls, you cannot believe the inhuman amount of pitches that one gets for Fashion’s Night Out. The event created by Vogue magazine three years ago to get people out and shopping again has become an annual spectacular that kicks off New York Fashion Week with massive spectacles, exclusive opportunities to meet some of fashion’s brightest stars and some serious shopping opportunities.
If you’re in NYC and you’re wondering where to go and what do to, fret not. These are all of the major fashion events I think you should hit here in NYC. Here are the two I’ll be hitting in geographic order:
I’ll be starting my evening at Barneys New York, which is having a huge celebration with heart: 10% of all proceeds from the day’s sales of their Madison Avenue store and Barneys.com will go to the National September 11 Memorial and Museum. Come join me as I hobnob with Daphne Guiness, Alexander Wang, style blogger Tavi and Simon Doonan. Oh, did I mention there will be opportunities for prizes and giveaways from lines like The Row and Proenza Schouler?
I’ll then be moving onto designer Donna Karan and her Madison Avenue flagship, where everyone will get a chance to meet legendary supermodel and style icon Marisa Berenson as she releases her new book. Moving down Madison Ave, I’ll then be stopping into DKNY, where ladies and gents alike can receive a cut from The Blind Barber before they pose for their own photograph shot by real street style photographers.
Valentino will be my next location, where there will be a little family-style karaoke fun with celebrities like Candace Bergen and daughter Chloe Malle, Dani Stahl and mother Joan Israel, Carlos Souza and son Sean Souza. Along with MC Tracy Morgan, expect some of fashion and Hollywood’s favorites to throw a few of their favorite tunes into the mix along with the crowd. It’s also shopping with a heart: 50% of the proceeds from the sale of special edition t-shirts designed by Creative Directors, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, will go to The Stiller Foundation, which supports educational opportunities for children around the world.
And now onto designer opportunities that I won’t get a chance to hit, but YOU SHOULD if you can:
Rebecca Taylor is throwing a fabulous event at her Meatpacking District store with Svedka cocktails, Bloomin’ cake pops and live music performances by AVAN LAVA and DJ’s Narcisse and Fischerspooner. Plus, you can style your purchases and compete in a runway competition judged by my girl Lindsay Calla of Saucy Glossie. The winner gets two passes to the SS’12 show, so I’d apply myself if I were you.
Alice + Olivia will be hosting an old school carnival with vintage games, cotton candy and SNOcones and face painting. Oh, and copious amounts of shopping. I want every shimmy shimmy shake sequined confection from Stacey Bendet. I’m not ashamed to say that. Go represent for me.
For those of us who ADORE Shopbop, check out their lounge at 9th Avenue and 13th Street where Louise Roe will be hosting a stylish soiree filled with what I’m sure will be some of their amazing items. You’ll get a chance to mingle with other stylish mavens and might get a chance to win a $5000 gift certificate to the site. I would KILL for that.
Accessories mavens should stop by the Alexis Bittar boutique in Soho for an amazing soiree hosted by the designer, Lucy Sykes of Rent the Runway and Selby Diamond of Vogue. You can get your hands on Bittar’s FNO bracelet co-designed with Diamond, which can get you a free dress rental from RTR.
ASH Soho is co-hosting a soiree with Dirty Durty Diary to show you where the wild things are on FNO. Expect tarot card readings, cocktails by Wodka Vodka and canapes by Creative Concepts along with a live DJ set and some amazing footwear.
UNIQLO will have two locations for New Yorkers to get their shop on. The Soho store will have tons of merchadise OR you can join the special UNIQLO Cube at the High Line Rink for a 70’s style costume contest and FREE roller skating. There will be special FNO merchandise for purchase that night as well. For those of you ladies who want to make Fashion’s Night Out an opportunity to meet dudes (or you have one that you’ll be dragging with you,) Lauren Moffatt at Poppypresent Beers for Boys, which in addition to shopping will evidently include bratwurst and cold brews. You’re welcome, gentlemen. Lastly, Reformationwill celebrate their new Ludlow Street location with a bit of a witch-y fabulous shopping experience. Join the line and Theodora Richards as they present a shopping excursion complete with tarot card readings and wiccan candles.
Enjoy the shopping, folks!
