Fashion Week Diaries: Backstage Beauty at alice + olivia by Stacey Bendet with Stila Cosmetics and Moroccanoil

Truth be told, whenever alice + olivia’s Stacey Bendet throws a party, rest assured that it’s the place to be that night. Each presentation is a party, so you’ve got to be appropriately dressed, down to the hair and makeup. With the inspiration of the collection described as “a cool, free-spirited girl wandering the streets of Paris” and a collection filled with brocade, embellishment and tons of great fashion rule breaking, the hair and makeup had to be stellar. This is how the look was created, and how one of my favorite photos from Fashion Week was captured below:

I think this may be one of my favorite backstage photos I've ever taken.

Makeup Artist: Sarah Lucero for Stila Cosmetics
The inspiration: Sarah, a total rock star in real life and one of the sweetest, funniest people you’ll ever meet, described the look as “renaissance but not too precious or romantic…soft and pretty.”

Key products for the look:

Lead Hairstylist: Antonio Corral Calero for Moroccanoil
Inspiration for the look: A gorgeous, romantic braid that was inspired by street style. In other words, it had to be so easy that you could have – and can – do/done it yourself.

Key products for the look:

  • Prep the hair with Moroccanoil Treatment, Moroccanoil Heat Styling Protection (coming in April 2013) and Moroccanoil Volumizing Mousse as a base for a soft style that will remain braided
  • Section the hair in two down the back of the head, allowing loose hairs to fall out along the face. Loosely braid both sides all the way to the ends and secure them with clear elastics.
  • Double the braids over themselves, then wrap the braids to the front of the head and secure them with bobby pins. If you hair isn’t long enough, get extensions in the same color and repeat the braid over the remaining section and secure it with bobby pins so the braid forms a crown around the entire head. Loosen some of the loops so the braid softens and some loose strands come loose.
  • Finish the style with Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine.

The finished look? I loved it!

LOVED this girl and LOVED the finished look. Cool, right?
