I take this small break in fashion, Fashion Week, beauty and all things fabulous coverage to bring you an important cause that’s near and dear to my heart and the hearts of the FSB staff.
As you may know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time where the entire world takes a month to focus on this dreadful and insidious disease. Leading the charge for the fashion community for well over a decade is Ralph Lauren. I’ve got more coverage on the incredible advances and care that the Ralph Lauren Cancer Center provides, but today I’m here to talk about another program where the company partnered with AOL Stylelist: The 100 Blogger Project.
One hundred of us (including me) were asked to show our support for the Pink Pony Foundation, which donates millions of dollars to preventative research against breast cancer and to provide care for women who cannot afford care on their own. Our show of solidarity is very simple: we’re all sporting this year’s signature polo in our individual style. Many of us have known someone who has suffered from this disease, some survivors and some who have passed away. The opportunity to get dolled up for a photo is one thing, but the chance to use our own personal style to make a powerful statement such as this is a chance in a lifetime. I know I personally jumped at the chance.
Want to see how many of your favorite bloggers were included? Check out all of us (and our photos) on AOL’s StyleList (www.stylelist.com). The photo above was my contribution.
It’s rare that I urge you to lend your voice (and wallets) to support a cause, but this is where I will make an exception. Raise your voices to encourage your fellow females to do self exams and get mammograms at the age of 40 and beyond. Support cancer care and prevention through the Pink Pony Auction, the Give in Style event and Text to Donate. These auctions will run from October 2-21, where you can bid on extraordinary art, luxury travel, couture goods and once-in-a-lifetime experiences generously donated by Ralph Lauren and his closest circle of celebrity friends. 100% of the proceeds of these efforts go to cancer care and prevention, women (and men – don’t forget that men can also get breast cancer) just like us. If you choose to Give in Style, you’ll receive 25% off your purchase on RalphLauren.com, and 10% of that purchase will go to the Pink Pony Fund. No time or can’t really shop? Simply text PINKPONY to 501501 to instantly donate $10. That $10 goes a long way, people.
As one of the 100 Bloggers chosen, I would like to thank Ralph Lauren and AOL StyleList for giving FSB a platform to support this extremely worthwhile cause. Breast cancer can be beaten in our lifetime and although the photo that shows me wearing the shirt is a silent testament to my support, please know that I plan to raise my voice for this cause as much as possible.
