Ladies and gents, this was a whirlwind week. I’m still sort of spinning from all the goings on – and there will be more on these individual activities once I get a second to breathe this weekend and work on some posts. But when someone asked me, “What have you been up to lately?” I started reeling at all the happenings this week. And so, here’s a quick look at the week that was in Instagram:
We’ll start with last Friday, which is when I woke up at 7 am to finish shooting some product photos and delivering articles for one of my clients, xoJane, and then threw some items in a bag so Lucky Guy and I could take our first vacation together. Well, it was more of a one-night getaway due to my travel schedule, but both of us really needed some peace and quiet. I evidently take a while to unwind when I’ve been working like a crazy person. I’m not kidding. I was commanded to take a bubble bath before we got in the car. It was just an overnight trip to West Point and with a stay at the lovely Thayer Hotel. Again, more about this later, but even if you can just take one night for a romantic getaway to see some foliage and reconnect, do it. It was worth the trip.
Sorry about that grainy photo: clearly, I need to upgrade my iPhone. You know, fashion and beauty blogger problems and all.
We got back Saturday afternoon, which was just enough time for me to pack a suitcase and squeeze in a SoulCycle class, because 6 am Sunday morning, I was on my way to JFK Airport for a flight to Seattle to visit Microsoft. It was a whirlwind trip and it was packed from the minute we landed until the very last minute we were together on Tuesday evening. Seattle is my kind of town, and as a grunge music addict, I felt like I was visiting my own personal music mecca.
By the way, this is the legendary Gum Wall in Pike Place Market. It’s a wall outside a club that’s covered entirely in gum. Gross, but so grunge. I may have taken a disproportionate number of photos of it in relation to other things. I may..have a problem.
My hotel? Epic. The Hotel 1000 is fantastic and the small anteroom off the lobby has a clean-burning fire pit in the center of the table. Which is where I had coffee, breakfast and every meal I could there. People, if eating breakfast by the fire is wrong, I don’t wanna be right. I have tons of photos of the hotel to show you. I absolutely plan on going back to that hotel. Amazing service, seriously fabulous rooms.
And, of course, there were outfits.
I left Seattle at 5 am Pacific Time on Wednesday morning to hop back on an airplane and back to Manhattan, where I had just enough time to shower and brush my teeth before Lucky Guy and I hit The Bowery Ballroom for one of my favorite bands, Toad the Wet Sprocket (I mentioned the whole I-love-the-90’s thing, right?) They’ve got a new album out, but played all their classic hits. If you’re looking to relax and reconnect with yourself, check out Dulcinea, one of their best albums, especially the song “Something’s Always Wrong.” Amazing album, it will soothe your soul.
Got up Thursday morning, went to a holiday preview, then it was off to Times Square to catch the Upright Citizens Brigade doing improv in honor of Microsoft #getitdone day. The rain couldn’t dampen anyone’s spirits as a crowd gathered to watch them perform. They were hilarious, wet or dry.
Came back to my apartment, wrote for an hour, then was whisked away for a new product launch by Swiss skincare company, La Prairie. The two products in this photo (again, grainy, I know, my camera phone has seen better days) are going to most likely revolutionize luxury skincare come winter. I’m testing them now, so more about them later if they pass muster. But on first experience, they’re pretty freaking good.
Woke up this morning and headed straight to the offices of another client, Refinery29, where I documented a photo shoot piece they’ll be publishing in short order. It was there I met my new love (sorry, Lucky Guy) in the form of a corgi named Tartine, who belonged to our photographer. If you’re on Instagram, check out @tartinethecorgi, who is evidently so fabulous she needs a booking agent. I was merely basking in her shadow.
And now I’m home and getting ready for Danny Kopel’s 6 pm SoulCycle class at Union Square before I collapse in a heap at Lucky Guy’s apartment, reflecting on the events of this awesome week. Because what a week it was….
