We all have those amazing friends who have impeccable style, and my personal style guru is Dina Fierro of eye4style. I met Dina about four years ago and have been honored to call her a friend, a shopping buddy and a wing woman in all things dating for all that time. She’s a dear friend, and one of the most stylish people I know.
I’m fascinated with how people live with style, and so to kick off this new series, I asked Dina to give her tips on fashion, style and beauty from her perspective. Here’s a view into the stylish life of a gal who truly has an eye for style:
Name: Dina Fierro
Occupation: Social Media Marketing
Where Your Genius Can Be Seen: (twitter, instagram, blog URL, all that jazz): All around the internet, including eye4style, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest
What is your definition of style? Confidence, and comfort in your own skin.
Three things people probably don’t know about you: I was once academically dismissed from college (don’t worry, everyone, I pulled it together and got a Bachelor’s from FIT); I waited tables for an ETERNITY and remain unfailingly empathetic to every waitress and bartender I cross paths with; I once, on a whim, moved to Santa Fe, NM.
Ten words to describe your style aesthetic: Striking (/bold – I don’t mind making a statement – I am a Leo, after all), minimal, luxe, edgy (I’m punk rock at heart), comfortable, and sometimes sexy (I love lingerie, for example, and cheeky art like my Live Nudes neon from eBay).
What is your personal philosophy when it comes to style, i.e. from getting dressed to decorating your home to beauty, etc? Wear and live with what you love.
What are your must-shop destinations where people need to go their style fix? Online and off? I shop mostly online and love Net-a-Porter, Moda Operandi and Shopbop. Offline, I frequent boutiques like Intermix, Kirna Zabete and Opening Ceremony, though I also love staples (it’s cashmere season, y’all!) from J.Crew and jewelry from Catbird and designers like Pamela Love, Giles & Brother, Tom Binns, Eddie Borgo and Dominic Jones.
What’s your philosophy for beauty and what are some of your favorite products? Honestly, if you have great skin (mine can be a trial, ugh) and great hair, you can get away with murder. Also, a bold lip hides a myriad of sins. I live for NARS Schiap (a screaming pink named for Elsa Schiaparelli) and many MAC reds, including RiRi Woo. I love the idea of having a signature fragrance, though in reality I tend to be a little whorish on this matter. A few of my favorites are Kiehl’s Musk (the Oil is sexier than the EDT), Frederic Malle’s Carnal Flower and Child.
What are your favorite tips when it comes to shopping? Buy only what you love or what you need (and if those two things intersect, even better). Ignore everyone else’s opinion (I tend to like things more when other people hate them. This probably tells you a lot about me.) Lastly, if you wouldn’t buy it at full price, it’s not worth buying on sale – seriously.
Quick: your apartment is on fire and you can only save five things. What are they? Well, my kitties, Simon and Violet (obvs). Whatever handbag I’m carrying at the moment (right now, it’s an Alexander Wang Rockie in Green), as much of my jewelry as I could carry (jewelry is one of the few things that I consider irreplaceable), and, of course, my MacBook Air.
