I honestly don’t wear a lot of makeup, and I have a general rule that at least 50% of my makeup kit has to serve multiple purposes. Not only don’t I have the time for sorting through an entire bag full of products looking for the right inspiration and skill to strike, my back is incapable of hauling that much around with me to photo shoots, meetings, and sleepovers at the boyfriend’s place. This is why NARS’ The Multiple has been a mainstay of my makeup bag for years now. I rotate South Beach, Laos, Riviera, G-Spot, Orgasm, Undress Me regularly, and I can procure one for pretty much any makeup emergency. Eyes, lips, cheeks: it does it all.

Recently, I was rocking one of these magical items when someone at my day gig said, “I am loving that sparkle on your face.” Do I regularly sparkle like Neely from Valley Of The Dolls? I’d like to think so, but I’d realized on this particular morning I’d gathered a bit of inlaid shimmer from one of these Multiples that morning. I like that, I am not a woman who’s afraid of a little shimmer (I wish to be laid to rest in one of Bob Mackie’s creations for Carol Burnett or Cher when I die, for the record,) but “sparkle” wasn’t what I was going for that morning. Lo and behold, three days later, NARS makes an announcement that they’re creating the Matte Multiple. Clearly, the brand understands me.

There are some days when matte simply pulls your face together in that flawless, magazine cover, Vogue airbrushing kind of way. This new product has all the fast versatility you love with a creamy finish on days you’d just rather glow than shake up the place with shimmer. Kind of like the gorgeous look they created for model Toni Garrn for the campaign video. That’s kind of the look for which you’re going for: not disco, not dead, but luminous and polished.

From ginger pink to golden bronze, seven shades of this genius product will hit shelves on March 1st, and the lightweight, creamy (read: heavenly) formula has a new added bonus: swipe it on dry for a “soft-yet-vibrant matte effect” or add a bit of water for a rich pigment with a velvet finish that melts right into your skin. Gather one, gather them all, then mix it up until your heart’s content. Glow on, girl: I’m right there with you.

Shopping Info: NARS Cosmetics Matte Multiples ($39,) available March 1st where NARS Cosmetics are sold.
