When the Tom Ford Beauty collection launched at Bergdorf Goodman, they had a little event where we got a chance to meet Tom Ford himself. Those two minutes of shaking the hand of one of my personal icons has really sort of given me a moment to pause. Because it doesn’t matter how many famous people in the industry I interview, there’s always that second where I get to geek out.
I’m a FAN of Tom Ford, and when that tall, handsome drink of water told me I was gorgeous and he liked my style, I was done for. If a meteor had struck the building mere seconds later, I would have considered my life complete.
Anyway, let’s move on to the things that are more important to YOU, which is his gorgeous makeup collection. The Tom Ford Beauty collection was created with the maestro’s eye for sensuality and glamour. Ford wanted a makeup collection that allows every woman a chance to unleash her inner goddess and lay bare her wanton sex appeal. I don’t mean in a reality tv slutty kind of way as much as enhancing your best features for maximum impact.
Basically, this is makeup that leads to the bedroom, but in a high thread count, romantic way, not a regrettable random hookup kind of way.
The collection of eyes, lips, face, brushes and nails is a wonderment of beauty, with formulations that are richly pigmented, luxurious to the touch and strong in their formulation (they stay put.) Although it’s kind of a beauty editor’s Sophie’s Choice to have to pick among the rich collection, here are my five favorite picks from the collection:
Tom Ford Beauty Eye Color Quad in Titanium Smoke ($75) – If you want the all-elusive perfect smoky eye, I’m going to testify that this is the way to get it in one compact. Just LOOK at the hues. Just work clockwide from the brow down and it should come out perfectly. Remember to build slowly for best results.
Tom Ford Beauty Lip Color in Black Orchid ($48) – I love a good vampy lip and this wine-based hue has the tint of – what?- a real black orchid. It also contains chamomile flower oil, Braziliarn murumumu butter and soja seed extract for a creamy consistency that goes on like buttah.
Tom Ford Beauty Nail Color in Bitter Bitch ($30) – Ladies, I want you to feast your eyes on this rich putty-wine hue that is going to make heads turn and the girl in the chair next to you at the nail salon positively apoplectic with envy. It’s a cross between the “greige” and “vamp” trends with maximum impact. Plus, the name is just perfection.
Tom Ford Beauty Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in Peach Absolut ($45) – A luxurious gloss that has plenty of shine and isn’t tacky or super sticky, this gloss glides on smooth and stays put. Plus, the peach is a universally-flattering hue that blends in like a slightly amped nude. It was a gift to me from the brand and I love them every day for it.
Tom Ford Beauty Traceless Foundation SPF 15 ($78) – A luxurious foundation with a formula that provides seamless coverage and is so light that you won’t even remember it’s there (for those of us who the second we can feel it start to scrape it off,) it’s a wonder of makeup science that I love now more than I did when I first saw it. Ladies, don’t scrimp on a good foundation. It’s literally the basis of your whole look. This one is one of my all-time favorites.
Tom Ford Beauty Cheek Color in Love Lust ($55) – Simply what it sounds like, it looks like a post-orgasmic flush, kind of like the one you see around the neck. I dare any woman to wear this blush and see how many compliments you get. It’s the best kind of color for your skin for a reason.
You can see the entire collection at Bergdorf Goodman here in New York City and online via their site. I believe select SKUs are available at Neiman Marcus counters around the country as well. At any rate, get your hands on it because it’s quite simply the best luxury cosmetics launch of the year. Period.
