Manic Monday Makeup Tip: How to Get a Flawless Face Just Using Concealer

It’s Monday! WOO HOO. Yeah, so actually, that’s kind of not how I feel today. I have wicked jet lag and am suffering from a serious sugar hangover from three (yep, three!) birthday celebrations over four days. So, I’m a little out of it today.

Which makes this quick beauty tip even MORE important for all of us, especially as we’re trying to get everything sorted for the week. Which brings up today’s big beauty question(s): can you really get away with just using concealer and/or which should you apply first, concealer or foundation?

Although there are many schools of thought on this one, I regularly subscribe to Bobbi Brown’s theory of applying concealer first. The reason is simple: if you apply a good concealer over already-moisturized skin, not only will you create an even, flawless finish before applying foundation or tinted moisturizer, you’ll actually use LESS of it. I’m proof it works: Unless I’m in heavy flash photography, I’m only wearing concealer as complexion makeup.

Bobbi Brown Bobbi's Skincare Basics

In homage to Bobbi’s genius, I would recommend starting with the 1-2-3  punch of Bobbi’s Skincare Basics. This online exclusive has everything for quick and supple skin. Mix a quarter-sized amount of Lathering Tube Soap with a pinch of the Buffing Grains and do a quick exfoliation/cleansing. Rinse clean and immediately hydrate with her Protective Face Lotion SPF 15. Now you’re ready.

Hourglass Hidden Corrective Concealer

As far as concealers go, I have but two true loves. Fair-to-medium skin should use Hourglass Hidden Corrective Concealer. This swivel stick of maximum skin coverage goodness is creamy and glides right over blemishes, dark circles, dark spots and hyper-pigmentation to create a truly easy flawless finish. Plus, it contains Vitamin E to help nourish skin while it’s there. It contains no sulfates, phthalates or synthetic dyes or fragrances. Swipe on over hydrated skin, blend, done.

M.A.C. Cosmetics Studio Finish SPF 35 Concealer

For my gals with olive to darker skin, my strong vote in this category goes to MAC Cosmetics Studio Finish SPF 35 Concealer. It also has the same properties (non-allergenic, fragrance-free, water-resistant, enriched with Vitamins A and E for antioxidant goodness) and will look amazing on your skin. Anything from the NW30 – NW50 range should absolutely do the trick. It has a warm base so it won’t look chalky on you and it blends in flawlessly. Great range of hues.

And there you have it! Maybe tomorrow you can try just a bit of foundation over fresh, hydrated skin. It’s super fast and you’ll look amazing in record time.
