Men’s Fashion With Matt: Splurge vs Save – Essential Timepieces for Any Man At Almost Any Price

I remember the first watch I ever bought (right before middle school with money from my recent birthday), but now that I’m older and wiser, I have since upgraded from lunch money to serious bank when it comes to timepieces. Still, while I do own ONE fine timepiece of considerable value, I’ve also started investing in some essential timepieces of lesser price that always turn a few heads when I’m out and about. Let’s discuss, shall we?

Splurge: The renowned Marvin Watch C° 1850 is a beautiful, essential piece from the genius Swiss watchmaker in a partnership with Sebastian Loeb, the seven-time World Rally Champion. Designed with a 44-mm stainless-steel case, they contours to the wrist (a key to maximum comfort) and offer features such as a face that reflects the dashboard of Loeb’s rally car, multi-level dial composed of riveted plates, and openwork hands that evoke a rally car’s reinforcing bars. Available in four different versions from $970 – $2,520, this line is worth the splurge.

Save: Timex, the long-trusted brand that takes a lickin’ and keeps on tickin.’ The brand has recently launched a vintage line with two classic styles for J. Crew that are perfect for day or night. First, the Timex Military-Inspired watch ($150) with a canvas band: a replica of Timex’s iconic 1940’s style that features a distressed face and an interchangeable canvas band. For a dressier option, the Timex 1600 ($195) features a pale silver-white, brushed metallic dial and a lightly-distressed, croc-embossed leather band.

Splurge vs. Save? I can’t advise you on personal style, but I can say one thing: get the best watch you can afford and never look back. It’s an investment worth its weight in time.

Save with the Timex croc leather straps. It’s a classic.
