alice + olivia by Stacey Bendet Fall 2011 Collection
Anyone who’s read this site knows of my unabashed love of the glamorous, socialite-ready collections of designer Stacey Bendet. Bendet knows not only how to craft a beautiful, feminine collection that’s a must-have for the fashion lover’s wardrobe, the woman knows how to throw a party. These two fabulous personal traits combined to dazzling effect with the presentation of the fall 2011 collection.
Held at The Plaza Hotel in New York City, attendees ascended the stairs to the second floor where we literally walked back in time to a glittering party of vintage-inspired glamour. Models lounged on furniture, stood on the tables and peered into the crowd as if frozen from a photo from the most dazzling party from the hotel’s past.
The collection was packed with classic 30’s and 40’s-inspired glamour, from molten gold sequined gowns with fur stole to glittering crystal-studded party dresses. Gold-threaded knitwear and jackets, beautifully-cut wide-legged pants and suiting separates, sheath dresses, coats – Bendet supplied everything a woman needs to feel and look her most glamorous day or night. If Marlene Dietrich and Greta Garbo merged into one wardrobe with a dash of young Elizabeth Taylor, this might be the result. It’s fantastic.
Bendet’s famous pants, exciting cocktail options, and beautiful separates will delight everyone from her red carpet-loving celebrity fans to the socialites (and social butterflies) who flock to her eclectic, stunning creations.
Who should wear it: a+o is a social brand, meaning that even the daytime clothing is meant to be seen. Anyone who has a social life can shimmy about and look amazing in pretty much anything Stacey does. If you don’t have a social life, this might be the wardrobe that will get you one. Daytime separates are chic enough to work in almost any daytime meeting situation and for cocktail hour or red carpet-type occasions, there’s simply no better go-to than an alice + olivia creation.
Where should you wear it: Anything that requires a reservation, an invitation or a plus one for entry will be perfect.
How should you wear it: Mix and match the separates into your existing wardrobe for an instant and glamorous upgrade. Buy one or two cocktail dresses and rotate them throughout the season with other separates (a leather jacket over a cocktail dress creates a whole new look for something you already own.)
