One of my favorite designers (and favorite people) in the industry is Rebecca Minkoff. As talented as she is a great, amazing person, I’m officially in the Minkette camp along with many of my fashion-loving online compatriots. Which is why whenever her show rolls around, I’m always completely over the moon to see what she delivers. This season, she decided to unleash her inner rock star. The Minkoff girl went center stage with a runway show that started with a performance from Theophilus London, who kicked it off with his hit song, “I Stand Alone.” The crowd was already almost on its feet before the first model even hit the runway and it was GAME ON from there.
The liner notes state that Minkoff was inspired by the protagonist of Ewan McGregor’s 2004 documentary Long Way Round, which resulted in a closet full of well-traveled staples borrowed from the boys – starry night references, pale suns, primary colors, brocade and ancentral prints were mixed into Minkoff closet staples such as biker jackets, skinny and slouchy pants, dresses with unexpected cutouts and jackets that will work with almost anything.
We were treated to slouchy glittering sequined pants, brocade biker jackets with shining, sequined tees and all nature of geometrical cutouts on dresses. The hipster vibe of Minkoff is becoming more sophisticated, with plenty of dresses that could go from desk to dinner with plenty of ease.
And, of course, we have to focus on the amazing accessories. You’ll want every bag that came down the runway. Period.
Minkoff strikes again when it comes to a hyper-cool collection of items aimed squarely at her audience – a gal who’s going places that likes to look effortlessly cool no matter what the occasion. Well done!
