Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: Rebecca Minkoff Spring 2011 Collection

About the Designer: If you read FSB consistently, you know that I have a great admiration for this fantastic designer. I’ve done quite a bit of coverage on her, so anything you want to know about her, from my interview with the designer to my recent tea with the designer can be seen on this site. I’m a Minkoff supporter, plain and simple.

The Collection: Everything I thought it would be and more. If you read the post on the tea I attended in her salon, you got a sneak peek at the shoes and bags that would be shown but when you walked into the Lincoln Center presentation space (called “The Box”) to view the collection, it exceeded expectations.  The collection was a flirty mixture of Minkoff’s downtown cool aesthetic, showing breezy separates like drapey tanks, flowing dresses and tiered skirts paired with tougher accessories like lightweight leather jackets, beautifully-constructed shorts and skinny pants. The silhouette is easy for multiple body types in that you play with soft silhouettes like the draped pieces and you add more constructed pieces like her sleeveless double-breasted trench minidress. The accessories, of course, were dreamy on a level I can’t describe: leopard-printed pony hair bags with long studded straps, beautiful clutches with long chains and zipper detail in exciting colors. The color palette held true to spring’s love of neutrals, with cream and caramel playing a major role along black and red as style punctuations. We can’t even talk about the shoes: stingray heels, camel leather shoe boots with wooden wedge heels, sandals with mini wedge heels so they’re easier on your feet. Everywhere you looked, there was something else to be bought. It was a great show and a solid triumph for the designer.

But, hey, don’t take it from me that you’ll be wanting to wear every single thing in the collection this forthcoming spring and summer: check out the gallery below and see for yourself. Oh, and grab a notebook while you’re at it. You know, to make a shopping list in advance because this collection will go fast.
