Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Runway Recap: DKNY Fall 2012 Collection

A DKNY-branded taxi parked in front of the doors of Cedar Lake. It also served as the backdrop for the runway shots.

You all have heard a lot about DKNY from me on this blog and I think it’s time to explain why. So, let’s take a quick second and talk about the power of this brand and what it does for you.

The DNA of DKNY is wardrobe essentials for the urban warrior. Because if you live in an urban area, one of the things you fight for constantly is closet space – whatever comes into our hallowed, shallow closets needs to WORK. Hence, this line very simply delivers every season a whole collection of workhorse wardrobe items that can either create an entire wardrobe or punctuate the one you have. It’s “flat” for the most part, with wardrobe items that can move into your closet, be packed or help you move about your life without getting in the way.

It’s why I support the brand so ardently, because as women with little time, we have to be able to pull something out, get dressed and go. For me, DKNY is the brand that inspires that confidence in your hangers.

Onto my brief recap of the fall collection. Inspired by the Beat Generation as well as the beloved women of the urban jungle of New York, the line was filled with sharp items that add the right punctuation mark to a multitude of looks.

Leather jackets of all lengths, boxy coats, puffers cut close enough to the body where they don’t add weight and beautiful car coats will keep you warm, most shown with extraordinary corset belts to cinch the waist.

Beautiful turtlenecks, slim-cut trousers and all nature of flippy skirts were also shown (a particular favorite is the fitted faux croc skirt – LOVE.)

A collection of LBDs also came down the runway, the ultimate on-the-go closet staple. The color palette stayed pretty easy with  mostly black, concrete and cream tones with a little bit of Royal and navy blue and plum thrown in to keep things interesting.

Prints were at a minimum when it came to this collection, but used to great effect when it came to a pretty floral print in slate blue and grey ….and a black and white sweater.

I almost DIED over a wine-hued faux fur belted jacket with faux croc sleeves and that flippy faux croc skirt seen above. Sign me up for that ENTIRE LOOK NOW.

The best part of the collection? The prevalent accessory was a removable windbreaking collar that looks luxe and can instantly change the look of any jacket or coat. Plus, it keeps the wind out of your face. I’ll need a few of those, thanks. Like most of you gals out there, I have to protect my moneymaker and I HATE windburn. 🙂

There are plenty of suiting separates for the working gal and definitely enough options for when you just need to have a little fun.

For the girl who has to go from desk to dinner and back again, this is the wardrobe that will work for you. Inspired by the Beat generation, this is a DKNY collection that will take you through your hectic life. The beat – and this collection – will definitely go on and on. Invest in it.
