Finding the Monika Chiang collection was one thing. Even on the first day of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, a gal can get lost around Lincoln Center. I just followed the fabulously dressed when it came time to view the collection and – lo and behold – I found it.
The designer called the collection a study in proportions. The ultra luxe pieces play with your perspective with details like an oversized zipper on a fitted jacket with fur sleeves or sheer paneling on what from the front looks rather demure. What had been ordinary becomes somewhat extraordinary in the hands of Chiang, and this collection reflections the tastes of someone who loves luxury with just that extra touch of edge.
The clothes are select items to add a BANG of luxurious punctuation to any wardrobe. From gigantic scarves to leather leggings, from backless dresses with leather skirts and panels, each piece is meant to catch attention but with a knowing smile. These are well-heeled items for a well-dressed woman.
The accessories? In my opinion, there’s nothing Chiang does better. Minaudieres with chain fringe, rich hobo bags, suede heels with an exaggerated front wing and a sculpted brass heel – Chiang is in her element when it comes to the items that complete a look. One item I know I’ll be getting? The black sneaker heel covered in tonal spikes. It called me from across the room and held my gaze (and multiple frames of my camera) for about 20 minutes. LOVE.
All in all, the Monika Chiang collection is filled with items that add a luxurious wink to your wardrobe. Consider picking up a piece or two come fall. Enjoy the slideshow below of the photos taken at the presentation.
