If you’ve ever read this site before, you know that I have a long-standing love of all things Naeem Khan. This master of glamour and all things red carpet had me the first time I had a chance to see his collection in person. The man and his amazing wife, Ranjana (whose collection for The Limited I wore all during Fashion Week – more on that later) are two of the loveliest, most talented people I’ve ever met.

Yep, but enough with the fan letter. Let’s get on with the CLOTHES, shall we, darlings?

The Fall 2012 Collection was inspired by the body as the canvas for traditional body art motifs from Khan’s native India. The significance of the shapes, called Talikas in India, are used deliberately throughout the collection. It’s these inspirations that are used quite liberally by Khan throughout a very inspired collection of day looks and eveningwear that offer us impeccable design with some love in the details – a little bit of self-expressed protection and higher meaning.

Set to a soundtrack of classic rock (Mott the Hoople’s “All The Young Dudes” was played and it’s not a Khan show without The Rolling Stones’ “Sympathy for the Devil”), the jet black runway was used to highlight gowns, caftans, separates and daywear, in particular some items in signature prints created by using White-Out on a blackboard.

The embroidery on every single piece was painstaking (it evidently took hundreds of artisans three months to put everything together) and well worth it. Even a silk/wool tweed sheath dress takes on a glamorous dimension in the hands of Khan, who adds floral deco touches. From jet feathers on an evening gown to glittering mirrored crystals, Khan is in his element with red carpet looks and the entire wardrobe of the women who walk it. This is a collection for them.

Every girl needs wardrobe items that cause her to dream. When my head hit the pillow the night of this collection, it was a Naeem Khan Fall 2012 Collection that I was dreaming about. Because if you truly dream of luxury, the deft hands of the most skilled artisans creating items that elevate your life, then it’s the work of artists like Khan that you dream of.

Twinkle, twinkle little star…this is the collection that will get him far. Bravo, Naeem!
