Before I tell you about the DKNY Spring 2012 Collection, I have to tell you about the significance of why this show was more important to me than most of you would realize.

I moved to New York in July of 2001 and two months later, an event would occur that would change my personal history and that of our entire nation: September 11th. This year, on the 10th anniversary of New York’s toughest moment, the label born out of love for its spirit and vitality, invited me to view their spring 2012 collection. For me, this moment was significant on a whole new level: one of the designers I admired most (Donna Karan) in the city I love dearly (New York) had connected for me on a day significant to all. A fact not lost on any of us, the moment was made even more significant by this amazing, powerful message on each seat to mark the moment:

It wouldn’t be the same if I didn’t share it with you. And with that, the show began and so must the review of the collection.

The presentation was shown with the models strutting in from the streets with NYC yellow cabs parked as the backdrop, another homage to the label’s New York girl spirit and the relentless demands on her time and wardrobe, especially when the weather gets warmer. The collection was filled to perfection with exactly what you want from the line: a whole wardrobe of closet staples that make getting dressed effortless and looking good as easy as mixing the pieces with each other and with existing items from your closet.

Filled with amazing wide-brim hats and impossibly fabulous shoes (a pair of vivid pink heels has my heart already), the presentation started with black and white suiting separates and easy dresses, then exploded into vibrant colors and prints in different city-ready silhouettes. Some graphic, some more subdued, the color palette was optimistic and very welcome. Donna has high hopes for spring, with a collection that’s an optimistic prayer for a time that will be easier than our recent economic and societal struggles, a wardrobe that will carry us through in ease. Slipdresses, swimwear, beautifully-cut casual and dress separates – these are flawless clothes that will work hard for a woman making it happen.

As someone who has not a lot of time to get dressed and who truly struggles with her spring wardrobe, I rely upon DKNY for amazing dresses and separates that will make looking good as easy as reaching into my closet. Rest assured, if you’ve got the same challenges of time as me, this DKNY collection will make the perfect addition to your wardrobe come spring.
