As a long, LONG time fan of Gwen Stefani, I was excited to see this presentation. In Stefani’s absence this year (she was in L.A. during the showing,) the collection was shown in the Box tent, which is a smaller presentation venue. However, I’m not sure if word that Stefani wasn’t there hadn’t spread or people were just REALLY anxious to see the collection, but the crowd started to crush toward the front, rock-concert style, to get into the venue. As in, security had to keep people from crushing each other. Alas, only a true rock and style star could cause THAT much excitement in a jaded fashion crowd. I made it a point to get in, shoot the collection, and exit as quickly as possible.
The L.A.M.B. Spring 2012 collection didn’t disappoint for those who love Gwen’s eclectic mix of retro glamour, ethnic prints and British eccentricity. Shown on 9/11 and dedicated to the people of New York City, the collection carried Gwen’s “dream closet” aesthetic that has ensured solid sales since it’s inception. Spring had strong prints in easy silhouettes (rompers, flight suits, skirts, shorts, bomber-style jackets and a gorgeous one-shoulder caftan) that evokes the designer’s signature style. Where the prints and colors were rather neutral (sand, khaki, black and white,) the shoes and handbags provided bright pops of color, making the wardrobe versatile and effortlessly cool.
If you’re a fan of Gwen’s effortlessly chic style and wish to capture a bit of her style mojo in your closet, I’d encourage women of all shapes and tastes to explore the options from her spring collection. All puns intended, there’s “no doubt” you’ll find a piece or three that will suit your taste and spice up your closet. Enjoy the gallery below of images from the collection.
