Although I’m probably the least girly person you will ever meet, I have always been a fan of Nanette Lepore’s feminine frocks and delightful designs. It’s a show that’s always needed right about the time you sit in the seat, where you’ve been racing and now it’s time for a little fun. With a live musical performance kicking things off, the models were off to a rock and roll soundtrack that was a sight for sore eyes.

This season, quite a few designers showed neon, but Lepore’s collection was filled with punchy bright colors that worked to great effect. It’s an impossibly optimistic collection, filled with bright daytime dresses, ultra-bright stripes, gorgeous vivid prints, and bags and shoes to DIE FOR. A midriff-baring top in citron yellow paired with a tangerine skirt kicked off the presentation and it ended with a gorgeous striped dress. Swimwear, skirts, dresses, accessories – Nanette wants us to have some FUN this coming season and I for one am along for the ride.

I would encourage women of color to look at this vividly-hued collection. Most of these strong colors would look impossibly pretty on darker skin tones. But that’s not to limit the ability of the clothes to make their way into a multitude of closets – there’s a little something in here for all of us, including all-black-loving New Yorkers.

It’s time to lighten up a bit, kids. Let’s brighten up that outlook and wear some clothes that are cheerful, pretty and incredibly easy, like this spring collection from Nanette Lepore.
