The thing you really have to love about Narciso Rodriguez’s talent is his amazing attention to detail. Nary a seam out of place, the Master of Minimalism has been known to obsess about a hemline for days, reworking a single garment until the very moments before the model hits the runway. Rodriguez’ collection is something I watch with delight every season and blessedly in person the past two seasons, thanks to TRESemme.
The Spring 2012 collection was a triumph, in my opinion, executed with Rodriguez’ eye for sharp detail and spare design but with vivacious tropical color thrown in. The urban staple black was livened up with flashes of aqua and citrine with dashes of silver thrown in. The silhouettes were strong, fierce and futuristic. The vivid pops of color we’d seen all week were used here to great effect against a stark palette of black and white, and the garments seemed pieced together from various geometric shapes, which sounds highly architectural but was beautifully moving on the runway.
Rodriguez was playing this season, with great delight from the crowd. The looks were crisp, beautifully-crafted and perfect for enticing his long-standing audience and encouraging newcomers to his well-crafted collections.
For those who love minimalist pieces with painstaking artistry, you can’t beat Narcisco Rodriguez. I’d encourage a piece or three for spring. They’re positively perfect.
