Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Runway Review: Nautica Men’s Spring 2012 Collection

Ladies, I will be completely honest with you. New York Fashion Week is very glam and extremely fun, but you’re surrounded ALL DAY by other women and sometimes after the pushing and the shoving and the disaffected looks and otherwise fashion-y behavior, a girl needs something to lift her spirit. Sometimes that’s a cocktail with a girlfriend, sometimes it’s a workout but every season we get a little present called the Nautica Men’s Collection.

As someone who loves men’s fashion, I love the clothes but I’d be lying if I didn’t say that looking at particularly beautiful male models wasn’t just what the doctor ordered. Forget Disney World, people. This past Friday at 3:00 pm, the Rooftop of the Empire Hotel was the Happiest Place on Earth.

Shown to a large gathering of both male and female editors, friends and fans alike gathered to check out what Nautica has in store for us this coming season. Amazing model casting aside, I have to say that I really, REALLY like the collection. Classic American prep for a touch of street attitude this time with some interesting styling options (hoodies underneath tailored jackets, pops of neon) and they showed beautiful tote bags this season in patchwork and canvas.

Gents, get in with the bag trend. We don’t mind if it looks relatively sharp and, honestly, we shouldn’t be the only ones schlepping items to the beach.

I’m a fan of New England prep style and there was quite a bit of it present. It’s follows along with the feminine trends of the clothing for both this fall and next spring. Men look like men, women look like women and everyone looks well-dressed.

Knit ties, khakis, nautical prints and lobster red pants look ready for the street (or the nearest clam bake) but the silhouette was easier than we’ve seen. No more skinny jeans, guys. Classic straight leg and generous board shorts are the name of the game.

I was particularly taken with a gorgeous vibrant green windbreaker. Love this item..and the gent underneath. Oh, you’re welcome, ladies. YOU ARE WELCOME.

But feel free to check out some additional pictures and if you’re shopping for a gentleman (or you are one,) be sure to put Nautica’s classic gent with a modern edge collection on your list. Oh, and enjoy the pictures. I know I will. 🙂
