Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: Timo Weiland Spring 2011 Collection

Before The Show: Since Reese and I came from backstage for this collection, we didn’t really have much experience with the crowd out front (which can sometimes be a relief after standing in line for days.) But if you want to know how cool backstage was – and get the hair and makeup looks – click here.

The Collection: I’m a big fan of Timo’s ultra-cool European aesthetic and this season was no exception. The collection was influenced by cinema again, this time the Scandinavian fjordlands that served as the setting for Ingmar Bergman’s Persona. Menswear showed striped shirts mixed with cool seersucker bright colorblocked shirts.  Womenwear showed beautiful colors influenced by the shore (Navy blue, salmon pink, teal) and cuts that accentuated the waist throughout, with shirts tied at the waist, a corseted dress and adorable nipped in jackets. Nautical stripes and color blocking played strong roles throughout, making it clear that the inspiration was seaside but with a touch that was all Timo. Loved it. It’s hip, chic and incredibly wearable for hip ladies and gents looking to infuse some Technicolor Euro cool into their wardrobe.

Particular items of note: In addition to the gorgeous prints and super cool fringed suspenders and corseted dresses, I loved that some of the models were rocking the same glasses as the designer himself. As someone who believe that glasses can – and should- be an extremely important accessory (hello, they’re the one you see the most often since they’re front and center every single day,) I’m a fan of this detail.

Overall Impression: I’m a huge fan of the amazing tailoring mixed with the super cool details of Timo Weiland. Since I have yet to be disappointed by the designer, I’m inclined to say that a) I loved it and b) I would definitely wear it and I think you should consider doing so as well!
