Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: Tory Burch Spring 2011 Collection

About Tory Burch: It’s rare to find a woman out there by now that hasn’t heard of lifestyle and fashion designer Tory Burch, but there are some fun, salient facts that I believe every woman should know. Tory draws inspiration for her collections from her childhood on a farm outside of Philadelphia, as well as her mother and father’s unique sense of personal style. She also lists art, photography, films travel, and the work of interior designer David Hicks as major inspirations. The brand was launched in February 2004 as a lifestyle concept with multiple product categories, including ready-to-wear, handbags, shoes and jewelry and has been going strong ever since.

The Collection: Displayed as an installation where we could walk through and view the collection as a gallery, I really have to say that I enjoyed and would wear almost anything in the collection. One look at the clothes and you can see Tory’s 70’s influences. Where do I begin? The silhouettes are classic homages to the era, from maxi and mid-calf length skirts (I was particularly obsessed with a leather version in one of the photos,) bell sleeved shirts and blouses, ultra cool prints paired with lace, paisley and stripes: it’s a modern take on the era and it’s extremely wearable.

Tory still displayed some of her beloved staples, so those who are addicted to her super cool tunic dresses and jackets need not worry; they’re definitely still around in fabulous new prints and lace-covered shapes that are seemingly ripped from the coolest vintage wardrobe ever seen. Even the accessories are vintage-inspired, with colored satchels and wicker basket bags with leather closures and handles paired with jute espadrilles and platform sandals. It harkens back to an easier time and it’s incredibly wearable. Tory fans, get ready for a vintage-inspired voyage that will feel incredibly new, very stylish and very Tory Burch.
