Moment in History: Last Night’s Encounter with Diane Von Furstenberg at Bergdorf Goodman

The DvF Boutique on Bergdorf Goodman’s amazing 5F, the contemporary floor where I live most of my life.

It’s absolutely, positively true that good things happen at Bergdorf Goodman. Like, really good things. If there’s a place in Manhattan where I would literally be perfectly fine being locked overnight, it would be Bergdorfs.

I hopped over last night to attend a book signing of Diane von Furstenberg and the tale of The Empress’ New Clothes – Fashion Fairytale 3 by Camilla Morton and illustrated by Diane von Furstenberg Studio (It Books, 2012.) This is the newest book in Camilla’s series that retells time-honored fables and fairy tales featuring a famous designer. This book features the famous tale of the legendary clothing-obsessed ruler (this time an EMPRESS, thank you very much) and features an entire book illustrated with DvF prints and studio drawings. For the fashion fan in your life, this book is a perfect gift.

My personal gift came when I had my book signed and had a chance to meet the designer (I had actually met her years earlier very briefly, but there’s no way she would remember.) I walked up to have my book signed and she smiled at me and say, “Oh, we’re now to take a picture, yes?” My girl Makeda from The Glamazon Diaries was holding my iPhone, poised to snap as I said yes.

A few photos were taken (from some other cameras, not sure who they were) and as we were taking the photo, I whispered to her that I was nervous. This is when she grasped my hand and said, “Oh, you darling girl, you’re fine.”

And just like that, this photo was taken.

Me with one of my icons, legendary fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg.

I walked away mere seconds later and realized that this was one of those moments where you just realize that she’s right. I, the darling girl, am more than fine. Diane von Furstenberg is one of my icons. I’m more than fine. I’m elated.

But I digress. Nab the book here and get it shipped just in time for the holidays. I think it’ll be just the right touch of magic for the DvF fan in your life.
