I cannot express how happy I am that spring has finally arrived here in New York. My chosen home, while exciting and amazing, is filled with a lot of high-energy individuals who can turn into a grumbling, pushy, ANGRY mess when the weather is too extreme for too long. What no one tells you about living here is that being packed on top of millions of people every day in poor weather turns any confined space into Fight Club.
But we don’t talk about it because…well, you know why: the first rule about Fight Club is….
Anyway, now that the weather is warmer, I think most of our spirits have risen and people are a little less apt to get physical in the no-no way. There’s dining on the sidewalks, the flowers are peeking out of the ground, and I’m personally planning to enjoy a little time outdoors. I’m excited that spring arrived before I leave town later this week so I could see New York in full bloom. Our spring, while lovely (and a little late this year,) is brief: by the time I return in late May, all the floral accents on the trees will just be lovely green shady leaves.
Spring always reminds me that there’s an end in sight to times of turmoil. Just when you don’t think you can take one more cold, dark day, suddenly the sun is peaking out of the clouds and there’s relief. Happiness isn’t promised to any of us daily. Sometimes, you have to buckle down and just hold on, and that doesn’t mean that tougher times have to merely be endured. We can’t change the weather, but we can always keep a decent perspective about it.
This week’s Motivation Mix is to remind myself that happiness is always just around the corner, that there’s always a brighter time coming. It’s also about reminding myself that happiness requires a little effort, that it’s not about “things” and “stuff” as much as it is about how I feel about myself. I don’t anyone or anything to feel happy; I can do it all by myself.
Enjoy the week, everyone! Hope you like the playlist!
