Monday Music Style Icons: Some Spooky Style Inspired by Alice Cooper

Alice Cooper. Source unknown (but greatly appreciated!)

I can actually hear you laughing at me right now. You’re thinking, who other than serious metal heads and people who work in comic book stores (not that there’s anything wrong with either of those things) would take fashion and/or beauty inspiration from these two older rock icons? Yet, I challenge you that today, Halloween, to consider my suggestions because you’d be amazed how much these two performers have influenced some rocker style icons and style today. Let’s watch and explore, shall we?

Today’s icon is Alice Cooper. Inspired by former vaudeville performers, Alice (born Vincent Damon Furnier) has become one of the greatest performers in rock and roll history, solidifying his place in the annals with an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. With elaborate stage shows that have featured guillotines, monsters, fake blood and electric chairs, his performances are meant to shock the viewer and bring them deeper into the world of his music. As a little girl, I was terrified of him but as I’ve grown up, I’ve become a fan of his work and own quite a few of his albums.

You’re saying, I’ve never listened to an Alice Cooper song. Sure you have. No doubt EVERYONE has belted out his 1972 classic, “School’s Out.”

For those of us who are into a little more gothic vibe, I’m personally a fan of “No More Mr Nice Guy.”

If you’re heading out tonight, why not give Alice’s striped shirt, leather pants, biker jacket and black liner a go. Go with blood red lipstick if you’re not into the fake blood.
