New York Fashion Week: alice + olivia by Stacey Bendet Spring/Summer 2011 Presentation

About the Designer: Anyone that reads FSB knows that I am a huge fan of alice + olivia and designer Stacey Bendet. As someone who really isn’t as girly as I’d like to be (and most of you would find that surprising, I know) I aspire to the ultra cool girl aesthetic of these party-girl-appropriate clothes. If you’d care to read my interview with the designer or some of her impossibly cool picks for her beloved home of NYC, feel free to click those links.

The Collection: Held in an ultra-cool venue with performing artists like Cobra Starship and DJ Mia Moretti and Caitlin Moe pumping music into the venue, the collection was staged along a long wall, as if you’d suddenly been transported back in time to the coolest 70’s den known to man. The collection was heavily inspired by that decade, showing such uber-cool style references as a long teal gown with tiers of beautiful silken ruffles, orange wide-legged pants, and spectacular printed rompers in acid bright colors. Eveningwear was plucked from this ultra-cool time and seeming borrowed from her mother’s closet as well, with beaded flapper-style sheaths, gorgeous embroidered dresses with feathered skirts and a beaded cape that almost rendered me apoplectic with desire. The shoes were genius and also vintage-inspired: of-the-moment shoe boots and ultra-high platforms seemed plucked from the coolest vintage store. The mixture of  varied fabrics and styles played with masculine and feminine, which will make you want to mix and match everything from the collection to everything else within it. It’s a dream come true for the woman who wants to add a dash of uber cool to her daytime look and desires to be the center of attention at night. Which, of course, is the whole goal of the alice + olivia design aesthetic, in my opinion. If you ask any of the celebs in attendance with us that evening (Elisabeth Moss, Katrina Bowden, Denise Richards, Nicky Hilton, Katie Cassidy, Tavi, and Tinsley Mortimer just to name a few,) I’m sure they were inclined to agree: Stacey Bendet nailed it with this collection.

But don’t take my word for it. Check out the photo gallery below to see what I mean.  Then plan your shopping accordingly because EVERYONE needs at least one alice + olivia by Stacey Bendet piece in their wardrobe this season.
