Kate Spade New York for Spring 2016 was effortlessly pretty. Walking into the presentation was like strolling into the Flower District of New York; the scent of florals was almost overwhelming in the best way possible. It’s unusual to walk into a Fashion Week presentation and feel instantly relaxed, but when met with wall-to-wall boxes of freshly-cut flowers, it’s hard not to smile and relax.
You know, despite the crush of cell phones and cameras jockeying for position to shoot the clothes.
As I explained in the backstage piece, the look of the collection is still the polished and pretty aesthetic for which Kate Spade New York is known, but it’s an even more modern take. I’d say there’s a bit of a millennial influence here (if not a lot of it) in that it’s a little easygoing and not as buttoned up. The well-constructed favorites you love are present, but jackets were left open or draped across the shoulders. The girls were poised but relaxed. It’s a new era for all of fashion, and the collection reflects it.
While I didn’t photograph all the clothes, I did capture some of my favorites, which are interspersed with my favorite items from Kate Spade: the accessories. The bags and shoes were positively delightful this season, and I’d dare say you’ll see a lot of fashion-forward lovelies rocking them when the weather breaks next spring.
But enough from me. Click through and enjoy some photos I shot of what was a very lovely presentation of much-needed breathtaking optimism for spring 2016 from Kate Spade New York:
