Lingerie presentations are always fun, particularly if they’re thrown as a party instead of just a presentation. When I arrived at the Dream Downtown hotel to see the La Perla presentation, it was just what you expect: all the women there are interested in the fashion and lingerie, all the men are interested in picking up the women or the models, should one suddenly stray from the fold.
Which – men, hear me on this one – never happens. You just look silly. Observe, admire, move on.
The collection was split into two collections and designer Giovanni Bianchi looked to travel and artistic influences for both.
The La Perla Collection was inspired by 1930’s Spain, specifically the film, Manolete. The bullfighter’s ornate traditional jacket was the inspiration behind the saturated colors and impeccable details for this collection. Beautiful and fantastic in a very real way.
On the other side of the presentation was the re-launch of La Perla Black Label, which drew inspiration from the surreal works of Salvador Dali and Miro partnered with the legendary designs of Elsa Schiaparelli.
It was a marriage of embroidery, sheer mesh and structure. This is your fantasy lingerie, the stuff that comes into play when your millionaire playboy whisks you into 50 Shades of Grey land.
All in all, both are spectacular, gorgeous and realizing that my own lingerie drawer is sorely lacking. It’s time to upgrade. Like, NOW.
