Truth be told, I’ve been a lifelong fan of Porsche. I guess ever since Tom Cruise had his moment in his dad’s car in Risky Business, I’ve always wanted one of my own. While Tom’s no doubt moved on to other things, my love of the brand still remains.
Which is why when I was invited to the viewing of the Porsche Design Spring 2013 Collection, I have to say I was excited to attend and – to borrow another line from one of Tom’s movies, I felt the “need for speed.”
Yes, I mean THAT Porsche. The brand that brought you impossibly sweet, sleek and legendary automobiles is going for a greater share of your luxury wallet with a sleek line of clothing and accessories, launching in Spring 2013. Creative Director Thomas Steinbruck has created a gorgeous collection inspired by founder F.A. Porsche‘s greatest inspiration, Bauhaus. In other words, the line is modern, minimal, luxuriously crafted and with sleek lines and exceptional quality.
The line includes menswear, womenswear and accessories. Of particular note are the leather goods, down to some rather incredible bags and attache cases, and some gorgeous sunglasses. The line also features some groundbreaking materials, such as RawTec Eurojersey (a fabric that can be washed and cut without sewing,) welded zippers, asymmetrical lines and a rather interesting play between finishes (high shine and matte leathers paired, for instance.) It’s exceptional. Check out the collection in the gallery. I was really, really impressed.
