I have a few jewelry designers whose work I simply live for, and one of those dear favorites is Alexis Bittar.
One of the most talented men to ever hit the industry in my opinion, Bittar is a Brooklyn-born creative who was first inspired by a birthday present at 13 – a tangle of antique jewelry given to him by his parents. That sparked a curiosity and genius that inevitably led the designer to pursue jewelry-making full time, inspired by the glamour of New York and the antiques with which he’s always been fascinated. He’s collaborated with designers such as Michael Kors, Dennis Basso, Jason Wu and Michael Angel, and designed a collection with Patricia Field i 2002 for four ladies we’ve affectionately come to know as Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte. Yep, Bittar is an industry legend and continues to craft pieces that take your breath away. He’s one of my favorites.
This amazing bracelet is no exception. It’s a Greek mythological piece (if you’re into mythology, it reminds me of Andromeda’s riddle for Perseus in the original Clash of the Titans movie) – entirely organic and comprised of green amethyst and green tourmaline with a shell-based cabochon and Swarovsky crystals embedded in gunmetal-finished brass. It’s a statement piece like that will work beautifully now but will be nothing short of legendary come spring.
In short, you need it, I need it – it’s a necessity. That’s the thing – once bitten by the talent of Bittar, you’re hooked.
