Ok, so whilst sipping cocktails and tweeting up a general tidal wave of comments at the Style Coalition Lounge Oscars Party here in NYC, I perched on the couch, ready to be literally carried away by a wave of amazing red carpet gowns. My overall impression? Um, well, it wasn’t a FESTIVAL of mad-for-it fashion moments but there were some amazing creations that took my breath away. Let’s take a look at my picks for Best Dressed:
Mila Kunis KILLED it (as I said she would,) this time in a dreamy lavender Elie Saab gown. The soft chignon at the back of the neck and those Neil Lane sparklers in her ears (not to mention the tennis bracelet – nice one!) made this look a winner. Ever the red carpet star, this basically solidified her as Best Dressed in my mind.
Cate Blanchett was the major risk taker on the red carpet this year, showing up in a sharp-shouldered, pleated silk chiffon Givenchy Couture gown with tonal and canary stone embellishment. Let’s not forget the 3-carat canary diamond earrings in her ears and that 127-stone tassel bracelet from Van Cleef & Arpels. This roll of the fashion dice came up winning.
How much did you LOVE Michelle Williams‘ Mia Farrow-esque moment in Chanel?!? The glittering column gown, the beautiful diamond earrings, the Jimmy Choo shoes: Michelle is back on top as a red carpet name and I, for one, am thrilled to see her there. Loved everything about this look down to the sleek pixie hairstyle.
Anne Hathaway had a serious moment in vintage Valentino on the red carpet and had no less than six costume changes inside during her time on stage. One can only image the avalanche of dresses that Hathaway had to choose from via her stylist, Rachel Zoe. The Zoe Camp came up with a series of winners for the talented actress and this one set the stage for a winning night of looks from the glamour gal.
Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein Collection was a golden moment for the actress. Gwyneth is taking more fashion risks as she gets older, which I find refreshing. She’s still hot, she knows it and she’s going to show you how it’s done. Let’s talk about the spectacular jewelry for a moment, shall we? That Louis Vuitton brooch was just beyond. I’m not a huge fan of Gwyneth, but she’s got my vote on this one.
Last – but certainly not least – there’s one moment that I have to recognize that I don’t know if too many others will. Everyone please take a moment to show some respect for Jennifer Hudson, holding it down in tangerine Atelier Versace. She’s exploring her new, amazing curves and her body looks SICK in this gown. Others might have shunned this look, but I personally love the color, the plunging neckline and the spectacular origami pleating on that ball skirt. Work it, J-Hud!
