I think I’m still physically dragging from watching every single second of the Oscars broadcast. Between Neil Patrick Harris pretty much nailing it as a host, the musical numbers (Glory and Gaga? Yay!) I’m still buzzing from the performances (and having nightmares about John Travolta’s creepy caresses. But enough about all that: let’s talk about the red carpet beauty.
Best dressed hands-down were Lupita N’yongo in Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein, Rosamund Pike in Givenchy, Dakota Johnson in Saint Laurent and Anna Kendrick in Thakoon. But the red carpet beauty looks are kind of my thing, so below are my picks for the best hair and makeup of the night along with a key product to get the look straight from the makeup artists and hairstylists themselves.
I was almost breathing into a paper bag to calm down waiting for Lupita to arrive, and she DELIVERED. Makeup artist Nick Barose created a modern take on the 1920's with a metallic smoked eye and aubergine lip, all by Lancôme . Margot Robbie was giving us Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface in the best way possible, and I was completely into it. This stunning red lip just pulls the whole look created by makeup artist Tyron Macchausen together flawlessly. Rosamund Pike's entire look was brilliant. Soft textured updo by Kylee Rae Heath for Oscar Blandi, skin by celebrity aesthetician Crystal Lynn Mattison, and makeup by celebrity makeup artist Melanie Inglessis. She was absolute perfection from the Givenchy gown up. I have to say, I thought Gwyneth looked really lovely last night. I really liked the sleek hair created by celebrity hairstylist Blake Erik, which is harder than you think since it has to stay put. Get the look: L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche La Palette Nude, coming spring 2015. I love how Naomi Watts always looks so soft and pretty. This lovely look was created by celebrity makeup artist Pati Dubroff and it's a study in soft perfection. I admittedly have Sienna Miller fever (I can recite lines from Factory Girl,) and when you pair one of my favorite Brits with one of my other favorite Brits, celebrity makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury, it's a can't lose combination. Reese Witherspoon looked fresh and lovely last night, and with hair that just would not quit. You have to admire hair that defies gravity with movement, and celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel nailed it. I also want her lip color. The key to Cate Blanchett's stunning look is always her incredibly beautiful skin. Cate the Great is a beauty spokesperson for a reason: she understand the best look starts with a hydrated complexion. This stunning look was created by celebrity makeup artist Jeanine Lobell. Emma Stone is having her best red carpet season ever, in my opinion. In addition to having incredible red hair envy where she's concerned, I'm also in love with this look from last night as created by celebrity makeup artist Rachel Goodwin. I love this photo of Jennifer Lopez (here with Meryl Streep, another beauty,) and contrary to popular opinion, I really loved this soft makeup look. JLo knows what works best for her, and the softer the makeup, the more youthful you look. She's a smart cookie, and this L'Oreal Paris makeup look by makeup maven Mary Phillips proves it. Newcomer Dakota Johnson was every bit the ingenue last night, and between her Saint Laurent gown (the SHOULDER, people) and this perfect ponytail crafted by celebrity hairstylist Mark Townsend, I'd say she's poised to be around for a while.
